A data repository contains both quantitative and qualitative datasets. We can explore bibliographic data, social media data, and geospatial data in a particular data repository. There can be closed access and open access data repositories. In this article, I will address some major data repositories where researchers can explore several datasets.
1. Zenodo (https://zenodo.org/)
It is an open repository developed under the European OpenAIRE program and operated by CERN [1]. It was introduced in the year 2015. Zenodo is run with Invenio digital library software. It covers datasets related to journals, conference papers, research papers, data sets, research software, and report. Users can get into it and search records using various search strategies suggested by Zenedo.
2. Figshare (https://figshare.com/)
Figshare provides scholarly literature in a "citable, shareable and discoverable manner." [2] It was launched by Digital Science in 2012. To date, there are 28 different item types such as figures, datasets, posters, and theses available in the repository. Users can search directly or by categories. Figshare also provides tutorials for users.
3. Global Biodiversity Information Facility (https://www.gbif.org/)
It "is an international network and data infrastructure funded by the world's governments and aimed at providing anyone, anywhere, open access to data about all types of life on Earth." [3] It provides free and open access to biodiversity data. The main search interface includes occurrences, species, datasets, publishers, and resources.
4. The Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) (https://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/solutions/csd-core/components/csd/)
CSD was established in 1965. It offers1.1M accurate 3D structures with data from X-ray and neutron diffraction analyses. [4] Users can explore Organic crystal structures and Metal-Organic crystal structures related to resources and data.
5. Harvard Dataverse (https://dataverse.harvard.edu/)
6. PANGAEA (https://www.pangaea.de/)
